Congress Tips & Suggestions
Typical August weather at Huilo Huilo
August finds Huilo Huilo in the southern winter. Expect precipitation either in the form of rain or snow and outdoor temperatures ranging from -5º to +10º Centigrade.
We recommend that you bring appropriate clothing both for the congress and any field excursions you might consider. Inside the convention rooms and halls, the temperature is around a comfortable 20ºC (68ºF).
The Huilo Huilo Reserve has a great diversity of natural attraction related to the volcano, lakes, rivers, the Patagonian rainforest, thermal baths, and snow. For field excursions we recommend:

Transportation:
Transfer from Temuco airport to the congress will be available from July 29th until August 2nd at 13:00 hrs and 19:00 hrs.
Transfer from the congress to Temuco airport from August 5th until August 9th at 07:00 hrs, 12:30 hrs and 14:20 hrs.

Registration
The registration for the Congress begins on Sunday, 1st August 2010, at 16:00 in the Convention Center "Carpintero Negro" (Huilo Huilo Hotels map) and will continue throughout the evening.
The members of the Congress Secretariat will be present at the Registration desk (next to the Convention Center) during all program hours of the Congress. We will be pleased to answer your questions and solve your eventual problems with accommodation or additional program of the Congress.
Congress Fee
All congress fee includes admission to the plenary lectures, scientific presentations, workshops, poster sessions, coffee breaks, congress program and book of abstracts, transportation inside Huilo Huilo during the congress, visit to the Huilo Huilo falls, and participation in the official welcome reception/dinner* and farewell party*.
*only for the regular registration fee, not student fee
Delegate Identification
Admission to all congress activities will be permitted only to those wearing the official Congress badge given at the Registration desk.
Daily Program
The plenary lectures and scientific presentations will take place in the Convention Center "Carpintero Negro". Posters will be on continuous display in the Foyer and halls of the Convention Center.
Oral Presentations
We have organized a central timing system for the parallel sessions (scientific presentations).
- The total time for a presentation is 20 minutes (followed by 5 minutes for changing rooms).
- After 13 minutes a green light will indicate 2 minutes left, for both the speaker and for the chairman. After 15 minutes a red light indicates the end of the presentation. Five more minutes are allowed for further questions and discussion.
- Facilities for computer projection (Mac and PC, Windows XP Professional, Microsoft PowerPoint). Connecting your laptop to the data projector will be also possible.
Poster Presentations
Every poster will be on continuous display in the Foyer and halls of the Convention Center for the duration of the congress, so please place your poster at the earliest convenience. Poster 'sessions' refer to the time when authors should stay with their posters. The number of the poster corresponds to the number in the Abstract book. The poster size should not exceed 90 x 120 cm (ISO DIN A0).

Meals
Coffee breaks will be available for the registered participants within the Foyer of the Convention Center. Congress lunches and dinners can be purchased and will be served in Baobab and Montaña Mágica Restaurant, Coffee Shops and Cafeterias of the Huilo Huilo Reserve, in compliance with the Congress program. Electricity supply
220 V, 50 Hz. Sockets type C or L are used. Bring your own adapter.
Security
All Chilean cities are very safe, but in metropolitan areas such as Santiago, it is advisable to take some precautions and use common sense, especially in a crowd such as pedastrian streets downtown.
Vaccinations
No vaccinations are required to enter Chile, and the country is free of malaria, yellow fever, and other tropical diseases.
Drinking Water
Although the tap water is treated and is totally safe, it is advisable to drink bottled water (mineral and sparkling water). At Huilo Huilo the water is one of the purest on earth and you will be able to enjoy our bottled Natura Water Huilo Huilo.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted inside the Huilo Huilo Hotels, but outside are places reserved for smokers.
Driving
To rent a car, you need to have a driving license from your country of origin or an international license and also a credit card, and you must be older than 18 years of age. Chile is a right-handed traffic country. The maximum speed in rural locations (near Huilo Huilo) is 35 km/hr (22 mph), in the city (Santiago / Temuco) is 50 km/hr (30 mph) and 120 km/hr (75 mph) on highways, unless otherwise posted. You should respect speed limits and traffic signals, otherwise Carabineros (police) will fine you. Do not ever attempt to bribe them.
